Summer is nearing and people are on the move. I wish all of you a summer of joy and fun. And for the millions of you traveling, have a safe journey.

For Derrick, Pele, and their friends, the Holidays are approaching. But crime isn’t paying any attention. Events are not what they appear. What at first seems to be two accidental drownings emerges into a tangle web of deceit and revenge.

I hope this summer finds all of you and your families well. Once again, we face new sets of circumstances and challenges. At times it can be overwhelming.

Advice is cheap. And I don’t have any secret knowledge. But I can suggest…  you hold hands, take a deep breath, stay vigilant… and try to stay at least one step ahead. Above all, enjoy your times together.

As for Derrick and his friends, they are facing challenges of their own. Pele finds herself sinking deeper in a sea of change. And everyone knows she doesn’t like change. Quon comes to the realization that owning his own business comes at a price. Derrick is confronted by the past of his deceased wife. And this brings him face to face with his own.

Along the way, Pele and the others begin to learn that even Derrick has his own demons to face. Everything comes at a cost. Even a pot of honey.

However, everyday crime doesn’t stop for a break. While trying to sort out their own lives, Derrick and Pele find themselves searching for a missing woman with her own secret past.

It has been a long year and a half for everyone, especially those hit by the virus and others enduring the many other difficulties life can throw at us. While a growing number of us may see the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, we shouldn’t let our guard down yet, or forget those we have lost along the way. Many people still depend on us for not letting our guard down until everyone is safer.

Now with summer around the corner and a chance at a return to some semblance of normalcy, we may consider enjoying something as simple as a cold scoop of French Vanilla ice cream with friends and relatives. When I first came up with this adventure and title about three years ago, I had no idea how significant, or symbolic, something like a simple scoop of ice cream could become.

How many of you know what makes French Vanilla French?

I didn’t. Pele and Derrick didn’t either. They also didn’t realize how much trouble it could cause.

I generally don’t send out more than one post a year. I know your time is precious, and the last thing you need is something extra in your inbox. But I wanted to take a moment to say that I hope you, your family, and your friends are getting through these trying times as best any of us can.

The scope of the current pandemic touches everyone on our planet. This pandemic is causing physical trauma to many of us, as well as social and economic stress and peril to so many more.

Most if not all of you follow my website because of the Dreadlow series. And I thank you for your support. But the site is named Mysteries – Real and Imagined. I only have one book currently out in the real category. And I’m not pushing it so this isn’t a pitch.

But if you are interested in understanding infectious diseases I would like to share an item from one of the main sources for my research on the real side of mysteries. It doesn’t have anything to do with crime, but the mysteries of the universe in which we find ourselves.

One of my main sources is the Great Courses. They have courses by top professors from top colleges and universities from around the world on all kinds of subjects. One that you may find interesting at this time is ‘An Introduction to Infectious Diseases’ by Professor Barry c. Now the class is few years old now, but the facts are still valid, and it deals with corona viruses that have come before this one so the details are similar. And it did make some predictions. SARS-CoV-2 is new and there is a lot we don’t know about it yet. But it isn’t so new that it should surprise us. It is just the latest one in a family of viruses.

I don’t get a cut from this. And as I send out this post the course is on sale at 70% off. (They often have sales.)

Knowledge is a light revealing any mystery.

I can’t believe another summer is almost upon us. I hope the past year has been good to you and your family. For Derrick and his friends the year has been slower, only a couple of months have passed. I hope you are all enjoying a good year and that the adventures of Derrick and his friends have entertained you.

For me, this has been a busy year and I can’t believe we’re down to the last weeks. Where did it go? I am happy to announce that the sixth Derrick Dreadlow novel, ‘Death In The Glow of Kilauea’, is now available on Amazon as both an ebook and paperback.
